Consultation
One of the most important predictors to successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client.  Before we agree to working together, let’s make sure we are a good fit.  You can schedule a 10-15 minute phone call and share with me what is bringing you to therapy.  I can share some information about myself and together we will decide if I have the experience needed to help you reach your goals but also if we feel that we can establish a safe and trusting relationship.  We can also talk about my availability, insurance and private pay options, and any concerns you have about telehealth.

Individual Counseling

Prior to our first appointment, I will ask that you complete some forms to start the counseling process.  During our first appointment, we will review those forms and we will spend time talking about you and your goals for counseling.  This appointment may not feel like a “normal” therapy appointment since it is so important to talk about your background and to give you the opportunity to ask me questions as well.  Getting to know one another is a huge part of our relationship and the comfort you will feel when working together.

Depending on goals, most people attend sessions once per week.  As we begin to make progress toward your goals, it may make sense to attend sessions every other week.  This is something we can decide together as you continue to live your true self.

Telehealth

Since COVID, clients have enjoyed the flexibility of telehealth.  Being able to do therapy before or after work or class, during a lunch break, or while your kids are sleeping is a huge benefit.  Being in the comfort and safety of your own home can also influence your ability to share difficult experiences.

In order to have teletherapy appointments, you must have access to the internet and a computer, phone, or tablet that has a camera.  It is important that you are in a private and confidential location and understand that if you are outside, someone may overhear you.  Although telehealth has benefits, there are times when these types of appointments are not appropriate such as when someone has regular thoughts of wanting to hurt themselves or others, has a poor internet connection, or despite efforts, is not able to have a private and confidential location for appointments.

Together we will decide if telehealth is appropriate and if not, we will work together to identify other clinicians that may be a good fit.
