The Plumeria Flower

I have always been fascinated with Hawaii.  I am not sure when I fell in love, but when I am struggling in life, I turn to pictures, food, culture, and the music of Hawaii.  When I decided to create a practice, I knew that somehow, my affinity of Hawaii had to be represented.  In my research of the culture of Hawaii, I discovered the spiritual meaning of the Plumeria flower.  Plumeria flowers are found in Hawaii (and many other geographic locations) and are often used in leis or flower necklaces.  What I didn’t know about Plumeria flowers is the meaning behind them.  Plumeria flowers are a positive and hopeful symbol that represents new beginnings, beauty, and grace.  I immediately felt connected to the symbolism and meaning behind the flower.  I researched further and found that in Buddhism, the Plumeria tree is celebrated as it continues to provide new blooms even if it is uprooted.  To me, therapy is about finding our true self and using our strength and our ability to move forward in life regardless of our past struggles.
